Recognize that as members of the Catholic Church, we are God’s People and are part of the Body of Christ. We belong to the Church through the sacrament of Baptism. We are called to holiness which means following Jesus and the examples of the saints. Our prayers are a way to talk and listen to God. Prayers are a way to praise and thank God. God wants us to choose good and stay away from sin. In the sacrament of Reconciliation, we celebrate God’s forgiveness. God gave us the Ten Commandments to help us make good choices. We learn about God’s loving gift of creation and teachings of Jesus in the Bible. We listen to God’s word from the Bible during the Liturgy of the Word. We love God by loving our neighbor, especially in loving service as expressed in the works of mercy. We place our trust in God to answer our prayers of petition and our intercessions for the needs of others. Through his sacrifice on the cross and his Resurrection, Jesus saved us from sin and gave us new life. The Eucharist is a sacrifice and a special meal of thanks. We are following Jesus’ law of love when we show our love for others. The Lord’s Prayer is the perfect prayer. The Holy Spirit gives us special, spiritual gifts to help us follow Jesus. All members of the Church are called to live in peace and serve others. When we foster peace and treat others with justice, we are following Jesus and growing closer to God. God has given us many blessings or gifts. We learn about special times and holy days of the year. We learn about the lives of the saints and holy people.
