Attendance Policy

PURPOSE OF ATTENDANCE

Cardinal Maida Academy requires that school-aged pupils enrolled in school attend school
regularly in accordance with the laws of the State.  The educational programs offered our
school is predicated upon the presence of the pupil and requires continuity of instruction
and classroom participation. 

ABSENCE FROM SCHOOL

“Absence” is the nonattendance of a pupil on those days and half-days in which school
was in session. 

PROCEDURE FOR RETURN TO SCHOOL AFTER AN ABSENCE

It is necessary for a student to bring an excuse from his/her physician, parent, or guardian
when returning to school after being absent or having an early release the previous day. 
The excuse must be presented to the classroom teacher immediately upon returning to
school.

PROTOCOL

3 consecutive days of missed school will require a physician’s excuse explaining the reason
for the absence. 10 absences during the school year will require every absence after the 10
days to have a physician’s excuse- a nondescript note will not be sufficient.  Back-dated
excuses, including doctor excuses, will not be accepted under any circumstances. 
School Administration holds the authority to determine excessive absences and will
address nonattendance issues by:
